Crowdsourcing a conference
11th March 2010
Digital Birmingham are going to have a busy autumn with a real focus on digital technologies. As part of Birmingham’s Digital week of events 18 – 22 October, we are organising and bringing together linked events that will include the Eurocities Knowledge Society Forum, Beyond 2010, Birmingham City Council’s Local Government Day ‘Sharing Experiences and Shaping Public Service’, the Hello Digital business conference, and the Say Hello public programme.
These are all part of a wider Hello Digital programme of events and activities that is enabling the widest possible audience to engage with technologies and explore new opportunities and innovations.
We are currently scouting around for speakers and we thought it would be interesting to canvas suggestions from the public. If you’re reading this, then that’s you. So, have you seen somebody speak who made you walk away buzzing with ideas? Is there somebody that you think would be ideal for any of the events that we are holding?
And yes, we are especially looking for all those Brummies heading out to SXSW to help us while they are out there. Although we reckon that plenty of people at WXWM might help us with ideas as well.
I’m going to take the opportunity to pitch in with my ideas first and say that three people I’d like to see talk are
and
Now, over to you.

Kristina Halvorson – http://www.contentstrategy.com/ – entertaining and much loved speaker at sxswi this year. Explains how to get your content strategy ducks in a row. Useful for web design and dev agencies, UX people and web writers/editors.
Either Tessy Britton or Andy Gibson would be great to speak on http://mindapples.org/about/ – one those stunningly simple ideas that could save money and improve efficiency. It’s a fine example of how digital makes it a little easier to think differently and collaborate.

I’m really pleased to see that we are having some ideas coming in. Especially as I’d not heard of these people before.
Thanks Fiona, Kristina looks worth pursuing. I’ll speak to other members of the team and see if we think she fits one of the events.
Nick, have you seen Tessa or Andy speak about Mind Apples?
If Kristina not free, there’s Rachel Lovinger, Erin Kissane and other options for content strategy help. Lemme know.
I’ve talked to them, but not seen them do big speech.
How about someone cool and interesting from the games sector?
Peter Molyneux (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Molyneux) is often about, but maybe someone else with a little SME/indie experience…
Jeff Minter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llamasoft) or Kevin Toms (http://blog.kevintoms.com) are both really interesting chracters from the early games world who are still going and are still pretty much working independently.
