Forget beer goggles, here comes “Google Goggles”!

8th October 2008

Google just cannot stop being innovative and adding to their ever increasing product line, and this new one is no exception. “Google Goggles” is an additional tool on Gmail, where people can test their aptitude before sending an embarrassing email to a love interest or work colleague.

Only during evening and weekends, when an email is being prepared, the application will ask you a number of mathematical questions to check how in touch you are with reality. If your score is poor, Gmail will not allow you to send the email at all (at least until the morning anyway!).

It is still currently in production, so judgement will have to be reserved until the application is out for general use – but it is a shame it does not go as far as preventing drunken text messages and telephone calls! “Google Goggles” does assume that someone is going to be able to switch their computer while intoxicated, rather than just dialling the number of their victim!

However, it is a additional aspect of Gmail that would be worth trying out – maybe the maths questions would be too difficult for some to answer even while sober!
