Lord Carter unveils Digital Britain report in Brum

17th June 2009

Today saw Lord Carter present the freshly unveiled Digital Britain report at the ICC in Birmingham city centre. A capacity audience heard Lord Carter explain the report in some detail, followed by a question and answer session. Lord Carter was keen to dispel what he saw as the media’s false portrayal of his Digital Britain Final Report, especially around the 50p tax on new copper telephone lines.

Cllr Paul Tilsley, Birmingham City Council’s Deputy Leader, had announcements of his own to make, including declaring an area centred around Digbeth a ‘digital district’.

Simon Whitehouse, of Digital Birmingham, and Anna Blackaby, Birmingham Post, were thrashing away at their keyboards to capture what was being said and fed it into a live blog so that people could read about what happened as it unfolded. Non-attendees could also view the event on a live stream, which was shown at the Digital Britain Unconference at the Fazeley Studios. There was a great deal of activity on Twitter, from both within and without the event.

In the afternoon, four group panel sessions took place.
