Soon enough we will be able to do everything virtually! Microsoft has introduced new digital photo software which will enable users to re-visit their holiday destinations, family celebrations or friends birthdays in a 3D virtual way where they will be able to “walk” or “fly” around their photographs in any angle.
This is a truly innovative step in 3D and virtual technologies, which will be really promote the exciting new digitial technologies and softwares that are being created all the time. Microsoft has defined this as a “jump forward in the evolution of digital photography” (Sky News, 22/08/08) especially as this type of photograph has become more and more popular.
What is also impressive is that photos can be merged together irrespective of what type of camera is used, when the photo was taken and whether different resolutions were used. This means that anyone can use this software if they own a digital camera, which will reduce the exclusion aspect for those who cannot afford the leading cameras on the market.
The software is called Photosynth and is free to those who want to use it. It will be a case of waiting to see how popular it becomes, but it is certainly one of the newest, most exciting gadgets on the block!
