New Year, new…..?

7th January 2009

When it comes to digital technologies this statement could read in any number of ways. As is the norm at the beginning of any year, there have been many predictions on what will join the market next. This could be the next high tech smartphone, broadband package deal or connection speed; or how technology will evolve through public use e.g. increase of mobile phones being used to access the internet, 3D television or achieving a broadband speed of 100 mbps.

Smartphones now represent 75% of all phones sold in the USA, it is predicted that by 2015 they will represent 65% of the phones owned globally. The growing economies of India, China and Brazil are leading the way as the mobile phone is the primary way the Chinese, Indian and Brazilian populations access the world wide web. 2008 was noted as the year of the ‘smartphone’ as they have become more and more adopted.

The potential in 2009 is very exciting, and even though the economic crisis will not reside this year, there is still much to look forward to. Everyone is tightening their belts, but it also could be a great time to take advantage of falling prices and better deals. Nothing will hold companies like Apple and Google back from continuing to compete, therefore the customer will reap the benefits e.g. the App Store will no doubt add to its 10,000 applications at present.

What is my point you may ask?! I am looking forward to 2009 and all it will bring, especially in the way of digital technologies, how about you?
