Hello Culture 28/11/2011

Or, O Hai! Kultcha, as one commenter referred to it.

Hello Culture 2011

Anyway, on Thursday 17th November I attended Hello Culture at Zellig in the Custard Factory. It was billed as a day “to explore how the cultural sector can exploit digital technology, innovation, knowledge and skills” and I had  a little speaking slot on a panel in the morning about social media and user generated content. 3 Minute Heroes 15/04/2011

When: Saturday 16th April, 2011

Time: 2.00-6.00pm

Where: The Edge,79-81 Cheapside, Birmingham. B12 0QH

Commissioned as part of Hello Digital’s ‘Say Hello‘ programme, Friction Arts have created a digital project ‘3 Minute Heroes’.

On Saturday 16th April, Friction Arts brings this on-line world, off-line.  Join in with the series of interventions and installations with nominees, and their nominated local heroes & heroines as part of this thoughtful, playful and subtle exhibition.

Working with people across the city, individual ‘heroes’ and ‘heroines’ have been identified, whether famous, unknown, local or global, and created individual on-line artworks to celebrate and reflect their heroes. The results have been both heart-warming and heartbreaking and participants’ heroes have ranged from the inspirational to the intimate, with stories of love, loss and triumph revealing the extraordinary in the ordinary.

They’re Saying It Online 04/04/2011

The Thursday before last I was delighted to be invited along to The Studio in Birmingham city centre for Said It Online. This was an evening put on by Yep Media to celebrate the work they have been doing with some Birmingham families as part of Say Hello‘s “Say It Online” project.

Parents, along with one of their teenage children, had been selected by the team to go to different arts and cultural events around the city and then review them on their newly created blogs. From what I learnt on the evening most, if not all, of the parents were new to blogging while most of the young people were used to creating content online, but not in as structured a format as a blog post.

Say Hello – Public Participatory Tender 2010/11 02/12/2010

Birmingham’s Festivals and Initiatives Team are seeking to commission six new projects which will deliver bold and inspiring public participatory programmes as part of Say Hello for 2010/2011.

The projects will celebrate Birmingham’s digital and technological achievements by developing new collaborations to increase the presence of digital content and widen the engagement with online and offline users. It is intended that the commissions will create ground-breaking initiatives, using digital media along with other artforms or technology such as Dance, Music, Film, Visual Arts, Animation, Open Data, Gaming etc to assist in developing a more meaningful and sustainable engagement with new audiences.

If you have had experience of developing and delivering participatory work and engaging with a wide range of communities and young people, this is an excellent opportunity to provide high quality digital initiatives in the heart of neighbourhoods and communities; creating dialogue and interest in the arts from new audiences through creative digital interventions and improving visitor perceptions more..

Note, applications should arrive no later than 10am on Wednesday 9th December 2010.

For successful applicants interviews will take place on Wednesday 15th December 2010. The contract will commence in December and run between December 2010 and March 2011.

Crowdsourcing a conference 11/03/2010

Digital Birmingham are going to have a busy autumn with a real focus on digital technologies. As part of Birmingham’s Digital week of events 18 – 22 October, we are organising and bringing together linked events that will include the Eurocities Knowledge Society Forum, Beyond 2010, Birmingham City Council’s Local Government Day ‘Sharing Experiences and Shaping Public Service’, the Hello Digital business conference, and the Say Hello public programme.

These are all part of a wider Hello Digital programme of events and activities that is enabling the widest possible audience to engage with technologies and explore new opportunities and innovations.

We are currently scouting around for speakers and we thought it would be interesting to canvas suggestions from the public. If you’re reading this, then that’s you.  So, have you seen somebody speak who made you walk away buzzing with ideas? Is there somebody that you think would be ideal for any of the events that we are holding?
