As of 5th December, 95% of the Internet Service Providers (ISP) have signed up to OFCOM’s new code of conduct - they must provide an accurate internet speed when people sign up to their services, rather than a vague estimate.

In his speech to reignite the Labour party, Gordon Brown has revealed his government’s plans for a broadband internet access, software and computer scheme worth up to £300m, which will target disadvantaged families on low incomes.

“Access for all” is the European strapline for broadband internet, and the target is all Europeans will have it by 2010. This will be a tall order considering the digital divide that exists in so many countries especially those who will find it difficult to even afford broadband in the first place.

It has been proven that people’s stress levels rise when they find that their internet connection is not working, from research been undertaken by You Gov on behalf of 118118. This type of stress has also been given a slightly weird name, “discomgoogolation”, which might get you even more frustrated when you try to pronounce it!

Yes it is true, a survey undertaken by Plusnet has revealed people who already have a broadband connection at home would rather give up smoking and drinking than be without fast internet. Over half of the people interviewed were still satisfied with their current provider, but over a third would switch ISPs. More – Broadband more popular than cigarettes and alcohol!
