Be Ahead of the School Application game and apply online

One of the most important decisions you will make in your child's education will be choosing a primary or secondary school and with the usual round of open days in early September this can be a very hectic time of year.

To help in the admissions process, Digital Birmingham are encouraging parents to get online by visiting the Admissions and Appeals online pages. Not only will you be able to gather more information about your preferred schools to help in your choice, but you will also be able to apply for your place online, all from the comfort of your home.

Last year, over 1000 parents completed their application online which meant that they received an acknowledgement of their child's application by return email assuring them it had arrived safely. When you register you will be given your own unique user identification and password to ensure the security of your data.

What proved most popular though with most parents was the speed and the simplicity of applying online and this year an added benefit is that they get to hear of their child's school place offer by email 24 hours ahead of the formal letter, which means they will be in the know ahead of those parents who use the traditional paper application.Fielding Family

The Fielding family have just completed their application online said: "Completing the application online has made it a lot easier and less time consuming and any mistakes or last minute changes can be amended at a later date using our personal password."

Les Lawrence, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families, who administer the online admissions scheme added: "Our eAdmissions service offers parents/carers the benefits and quality of service that citizens now demand, and does so efficiently.

It is also important because it can act as a 'gateway service' to a wider, joined-up service that helps parents engage with their children's education and wider welfare and develops an inclusive digital community."

If you have just moved into the area then you can take advantage of the 'late application' facility, which will enable you to apply for your child's school place right up to the last minute. To make your online applications and find more information about the schools please click here.
