The Akhtar Family

Meet the Akhtar's July's digital family. This months family consists of Somia (age 7) Sonia (age 10) and Sahlym and Ali the mother and father. Somia and Sonia are sitting in the front while their mother is sitting with two cousins.
Although Birmingham is their home this closely knit the family has other close relatives in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and they keep in touch with them daily using that wonderful piece of technology called Skype. The addition of a webcam means that is not just a talking exercise. Rawalpindi, Pakistan's fourth largest city has an excellent broadband network so the conversations are in 'real' time and of course are free.
For Somia and Sonia the IT in the home is important for their homework with mathletics (mathletics.co.uk) and Education City (EducationCity.com) playing an important role. Sonia also does a lot of emailing to her friends and relatives while Somia is a budding young photographer with her digital camera. She hasn't got around to editing them yet, maybe that's another year away? And have you heard of FRIV? It's a fantastic online games site with over 150 free games and Somia loves it.
Come back soon.
