For those who worry about how often they are captured on CCTV during the day, Google has launched a new service called Latitude. It has been added to Google Maps and those with GPS can locate a family member or friend within a couple of metres - if the individual has signed up to the service themselves. However, without GPS the location could be quite inaccurate in relation to how far the individual is from the nearest mobile phone mast.
It is quite apt for Google to release this new service now, as the whole of the UK has been caught up in such adverse weather conditions and many people have been stranded without being able to contact loved ones.
However, it is not as invasive as it may sound. You can choose to sign up to this service, you can control who can track you and if you don't want someone to know where you are you can manually change your location. Google has also promised that no data will be stored from any journeys you have made.
Latitude has been launched in 27 countries across the world, and can be used on the following handsets: Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Symbian 60 and PCs.
