Microsoft launch new Windows 7 in Las Vegas
08/01/2009
After the lukewarm reception of Windows Vista, Microsoft have launched their new software, Windows 7 to software developers in Las Vegas, USA.
From 9th January it will be available to the public to download onto their own PCs - and that is when the real test begins. Steve Ballmer, who took over from Bill Gates in 2008, generated momentum behind their new software product by calling it a "linchpin" which will make the user experience of gadgets and services better all round.
Windows 7 provides a lot of potential, for example it will work more effectively with other devices such as Xbox consoles, media servers and other gadgets that can share media and content.
Microsoft has also been working closely with Facebook, so when people update their profiles on the social network, the changes would be automatically copied to their Windows Live pages.
Mr Ballmer is very optimistic about the year ahead, even in the face of the economic downturn. He highlighted that the computer, phone and TV would become joined-up devices that acted as peoples personal digital "ecosystem".
"Connecting all these devices together is the last mile in creating a real breakthrough experience for consumers." Ballmer explained.
