Chris Price, Director of Digital Development & Communities at Digital Birmingham, provides his comments on the release of the Digital Britain Interim Report.

"Birmingham welcomes the interim report on Digital Britain published today and in particular its recognition of digital technology as a key driver to economic growth and social inclusion in the UK.

"Through the Digital Birmingham partnership, we will continue to complement the national investment with our local commitment to putting Birmingham on the global digital stage and getting the best of digital for the city. "Through projects such as Aston Pride's Computers in the Home initiative, the winner last week of the e-Government National Award for Building a Fairer Society with e-Government Services and our commitment to creating Universal Home Access, we will work to bring the benefits of digital technologies to all our citizens and businesses.

"In particular we welcome the rethink on providing a digital return connection for the TV switchover so that many people currently excluded can access public services over their television interactively. Birmingham has the highest reported usage across the country of residents accessing local services through their digital TV which is evidence of its popularity. We have recently shown our support for the Government's proposals for digital inclusion and are ready to show a lead in the creation of a fair Digital Britain and we look forward to the debate on this"
