Local Authority ICT spend will increase in 2009 thumbnail

Kable Direct has recently released a report detailing public sector spend on ICT over the next 5 years. The report's research has discovered that local government will spend the most across the whole sector in 2008/09, and this trend will continue through to 2012/13.

Spend so far in this financial year has reached £3,772 million, which represents 22% of all ICT spend. This will rise to £4,341 million in 5 years. The report covers the whole of the country, 84% of the public sector organisations are local authorities; the other 16% is made up of fire and rescue agencies and national programmes.

The report findings were based on research among 200 authorities including over 100 telephone interviews with senior ICT staff and data provided by another 100 organisations under the Freedom of Information Act.
