Local Digital TV

Happy man with TV controlsDigital Birmingham have created a local digital TV service for Birmingham ahead of the switchover. This means that Birmingham citizens can access around 50 information and service areas through their TV that covers jobs, bus and train travel information as well as a trial GP appointment booking facility.

Digital TV provides a key route for people to influence council services and delivery at the press of a button as well as reach other vital services. The channel currently has around 24,000 hits a month through the digital channel and clearly demonstrates the potential this service has to offer when Birmingham goes digital in 2011.

The local TV channel will provide 24/7 access allowing people who find it difficult to attend offices or phone in office time to link to services. Further enhancements will look at enabling payments through the TV.

We are working further to raise awareness around the potential of digital TV in making services and information more immediate and accessible and more importantly for it to offer a 2-way interactive facility between the council and its residents. Birmingham people will be able to use their digital TV to feedback and influence service delivery from the convenience of their own home, particularly important for older people.
