The Web 2.0/Social Media project helps small businesses understand how they might stimulate demand, improve and increase business by using social media.

Funded by WNF (Working Neighbourhood Fund) and delivered in partnership with Birmingham City University the project comprised of a number of events and 16 business assists.

Running through 2010/11 the project has proved to be extremely successful, and has focused on topics such as Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and the potential risks and benefits each of these channels provide.

Over 200 small businesses have attended the series of free Web 2.0 events and here are some of their comments;

After attending the events the majority of small businesses increased their knowledge of social media by almost 50%.

  • 97% of attendees found the content very interesting
  • 100% of attendees said the speaker explained the subject well
  • 100% of attendees said they would attend similar events hosted by Digital Birmingham
  • Overall 97% of attendees were satisfied with the event.

Digital Birmingham has successfully hosted 3 events throughout 2010:

Web 2.0 Events

  1. The first in a series of Web 2.0 events was held at Faraday Wharf, Birmingham Science Park Aston on 30 March 2010.

    The event was well attended and recieived with a successful evaluation with 80% of delegates satisfied with content and speakers and a 25% increase in knowledge by SMEs of how to stimulate business demand using web 2.0.

     

     
  2. The second Web 2.0 event was hosted by Business Link in conjunction with Digital Birmingham and took place during Hello Digital Week in October 2010.

    The audience reach of the project was extended to senior managers both in industry and public sector from across the UK and Europe andincorporated a panel/surgery where SMEs can have a one to one slot with Web 2.0 experts as part of the Hello Business event at the ICC 22nd Oct.

     

     
  3. The final event of the series was attended by 36 people and was held at the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, delegates were presented to by Susan Hallam of Hallam Communications. An excellent speaker who pitched the event at the correct level for the audience. 97% found the content interesting, 100% felt the speaker explained the subject well. Survey found that 100% of attendees would attend similar events!
